Biofilm the main source of contamination
Crop rotations are the perfect time to optimize hygiene on a farm. Taking care of the complete water system is certainly part of that. The main source of contamination is biofilm. Stubborn pollution that requires a good approach, during and certainly after the crop rotation, says Joost Hovens of Cindro.

“Every grower knows how reassuring it is to have the entire company ready for the new plants again.”
Biofilm, a layer of micro-organisms, surrounded by self-produced mucus, which deposits against all surfaces in a watering system. Due to the slime layer around the bacteria, the bacteria are more resistant to toxic substances such as crop protection agents. “Bacteria in the film have a high resistance and can be 10 to 1000 times more resistant to disinfectants and toxic substances than 'loose' bacteria,” says Joost. “That makes biofilm the most persistent hygiene problem in the greenhouse.”

No more cucumber fur virus for a year and a half.
Tholen – The addition of 4,000 square meters has cost cucumber grower Edwin Hendrickx quite a few headaches over the past four years, but the greenhouse is now finished and Edwin grows cucumbers on 2.4 hectares in the traditional way, with intermediate plants. But there was another headache file he had to deal with: the cucumber fur virus. Finnally solved since 1,5 year.
"First I dripped Sinergy®Defense once a week with the irrigation water, but now I add it as fertilizer to the water that my fog system (LVM) spreads in the greenhouse," says Edwin. "The leaf is harder and has a nice shine."

The essential importance of oxygenated water
Roots need oxygen to absorb water and fertilizers. Oxygen-rich water promotes the root environment and ensures healthy root development. The general biology of the soil life is better balanced and a grower sees this in the crop. The use of low-oxygen irrigation water increases the chance of the growth of fungi such as pythium and phytophthora. Long-term use of low-oxygen water can cause root rot and root death.

Cindro has developed the Cindro2 Nano Bubble Generator. This generator directly increases the dissolved oxygen content in the basin water and irrigation water. In making cultivation more sustainable without using harmful substances for people, animals and the environment, the Cindro2 Nano Bubble Generator is an effective tool to reduce the use of fungicides.
